1). On-Court Gameplay Improvements
Offensively, the goal is to give players more control over how they score. Basketball IQ and stick skills will play a bigger role in your success, and you can expect precision jump shooting, dunking in traffic, and pulling off alley-oops to be more skill-based alongside new signature moves and combos to break down defenders off the dribble.
Defensively, a revamped shot contest, stealing, and blocking system bring more realism to the game. Elite defenders should make much more of an impact, playing suffocating defense on the perimeter.
2). Seasons Are Going Game-wide
Seasons are back, and they're expanding. They are going game-wide and will be making their way into other modes beyond MyTeam. Visual Concepts says to expect more content, rewards, and more ways to play.
NBA 2K22 will also introduce a new way to level up your MyPlayer and earn prizes via The Neighborhood.
3). Drafting Returns For MyTeam
MyTeam fans will also be happy to know one much-requested feature is finally making a return: drafting.
MyTEAM: Draft allows players to select their entire lineup from a frequently updated pool of players, aiming to level the playing field as you compete against others while also giving users the chance to try out cards they haven't yet collected.
While cross-play isn't coming to NBA 2K22, we are getting some cross-gen progress support, specifically with MyTEAM, as all MyTEAM progress and collections, the VC wallet, MyTEAM points, and MyTEAM Token balances will transfer within the same console family (PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S).
4). The New City (PS5/Xbox Series X/S) and New Neighborhood (PS4, Xbox One)
On the next-gen side of things for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users, The City is completely revamped with a new layout and an all-new quest system to go along with it.
In a link to MyCAREER, each MyPLAYER will have a house in The City as a home base, continuing to grow and upgrade as you level up your MyPLAYER.
The City is also getting new matchmaking options, allowing sessions for several different game types, contributing to MyPLAYER progress.
Meanwhile, current-gen players are receiving a new version of The Neighborhood, but this time it's built on a cruise ship.
Players on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC will get to enjoy the ship and have new excursions to exotic locations throughout each season with unique shoreside events.
5). MyCareer Is Getting Reenvisioned For New-Gen
In terms of MyCareer, it seems to be moving past the classic cinematic cut-scenes we've all come to know in exchange for a more open-world concept with various quests scattered throughout The City. By combining the two popular modes, fans will feel more drawn to the process of turning your MyPlayer's modest apartment into a penthouse suite and improving their skills through interactive quests in The City.
The developers also stated how the multiple additions to MyCareer would allow players to extend their careers off the court, like getting involved with music and fashion. Ultimately, the goal is to give players more control over how they want to live out their pro basketball career.
6). MyNBA/WNBA (PS5/Xbox Series X/S)
While Visual Concepts wouldn't elaborate just yet what it has planned, it said to expect the road to building a winning franchise to involve a bigger focus on the staff behind the players. Staffing is going to be just as integral as signing star players to bolster your roster. This includes scouting, training, and coaching.
